8 Ways to Get Involved in Your Homeschool Community
On June 11, 2026 by Anna De LayAs a long time home educator, I know that a good support base is pivotal to homeschool success. Being a part of a community that supports one another can lighten the load exponentially.
If you’re not sure where to start, here are eight ways to get involved in your homeschool community.
1. Join a weekly co-op or other enrichment classes.
Outsource a class or two that you don’t particularly enjoy teaching and watch your child make new friends. Perhaps you will too. Win, win!
2. Support homeschool events.
Show up and cheer for the choir, the basketball team, the theater club – even if your child is not a participant. Kids feel special when others in the community are cheering them on.
3. Help behind the scenes.
With any homeschool event, there are lots of things that need to be done. From providing food, to decorating, to moving props for theater… It is truly amazing just how much work homeschool moms and dads put in to help their kids thrive.
4. Support homeschool entrepreneurs.
Throughout the year, there are usually arts and crafts shows or other events by homeschoolers that sometimes get overlooked. If kids put the work into a hobby or business, they truly deserve and need our support.
5. Step up to lead.
There is always a need for more teachers (especially for Algebra๐ฅด), and also people to help corral kids, people to take charge in certain areas… If you see the need and know you could help, even if you’re a little hesitant, the knowledge and skill set will improve as you see it through. We grow when we say yes!
6. Set up your own events and field trips.
We often wait until someone else does it, but why not make the call yourself and schedule the field trip? Why not open your own home to a play date or schedule a hike? Sometimes, we have to take some responsibility to get the connection we need.
7. Support other homeschoolers in need.
You might sign up for a meal train, send a card, offer to help mow a lawn, or send a flower arrangement after a loss. Thoughtful gestures are never a waste of energy and often lead to new or deepened friendships.
8. Join a mom’s support group or create your own.
Get away from home one night a month to meet with other moms who also need community. It can feel hard at first if you’re like me and enjoy staying home. But you just might have the words of encouragement that another mom needs to hear.
What would you add? How do you stay connected with others? Leave a comment! And if this encouraged you, please share with a fellow homeschooler ๐ Check out my other homeschool posts:
